Ladakh - Land of Lamas

A journey through this region covers the most ancient monasteries of Ladakh where you will see the rituals and way of life of Lamas and monastic institutions. Explore the natural beauty of the barren landscape in the capital city of Leh and experience the spirit of Buddhism in the gompas of Hemis, Alchi and Lamayuru.
Tour Itinerary
01
Day 01 :: Arrive Delhi
Meet & assistance on arrival at Delhi International Airport. You will be transferred to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure & overnight stay.

Day 02: In Delhi
Enjoy a combined full day guided sightseeing tour of Old and New Delhi. Morning tour of Old Delhi includes a drive past the Red Fort and a visit to the Jama Masjid the largest mosque in Asia, and the Raj Ghat, the simple but moving memorial to Mahatma Gandhi. Afternoon tour of New Delhi includes the Qutab Minar, the astonishing victory tower built in the early 13th century, the tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun and a drive past the imposing India Gate (War Memorial Arch), the Parliament buildings and the Rashtrapathi Bhawan (the President's residence). Day 03 :: Delhi - Leh
Early morning flight (approx 1.5 hrs) to the capital city of Ladakh, Leh. On arrival check into your hotel for a five-night stay. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure. (B,D)

Day 04 :: - In Leh
The day is at leisure to acclimatise. Note: Leh is situated at an altitude of about 3505 mt above sea level. The first two days will be at leisure to acclimatise to the altitude difference. We advise you not to indulge in any sort of physical activity as the high altitude and rarefied air could result in severe headaches, nausea, coughing and breathlessness.

Day 05 :: In Leh
Morning visit to Sankur Gompa, a branch of the Spituk Monastery. Continue to the Shanti Stupa built by a Japanese who harboured the ambition of spreading Buddhism across the world. The afternoon is spent visiting the ruins of Leh Palace, modelled on the famous Potala Palace in Lhasa. (B,L,D)

Day 06 :: : In Leh
Morning visit to Phyang Monastery. Continue to Spituk Gompa. The rest of the day is at leisure. (B, L, D)

Day 07 :: In Leh
Full day jeep excursion visiting Shey - the 15th century summer palace and monastery of Leh's royal family, the 800 year old Gompa at Thiksey built on a hilltop, and Hemis built on a green hillside hidden in a gorge and is the largest and wealthiest gompa in Ladakh. (B, L, D)

Day 08 :: Leh - Alchi
Morning visit the Stok Palace Museum. Drive to Alchi en-route visiting Likir Monastery. On arrival at Alchi, check into your hotel for a two-night stay. (B, L, D)

Day 09 :: In Alchi
Morning visit to the Alchi Monastery situated on the banks of the River Indus. Continue on an excursion to Lamayuru and visit the Lamayaru Monastery - the oldest monastery in Ladakh where rituals of ancient Budhism are still practised. (B, L, D)

Day 10 :: Alchi - Leh
Morning drive to Leh. Enjoy an afternoon visit to Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre and the SOS Village. Explore the various centres within Mahabodhi. (B, L,D)

Day 11 :: Leh- Delhi - Departure
Transfer to the airport and fly to Delhi to connect with your international flight back home or for your internal flight to your resort destination.
